In Yemen, the absence of colonial presence tends to make the relation between the Muslim reformist and the nationalist and modernising elites very specific. Each of the two interlocutors seems to have sought from the other what was missing to him: independence and protectionism for the ones, more opening on the world for the others. Contradicting the thesis which frequently sees the Moslem Brothers as the result of a significant rupture with their reformist predecessors, observation of Yemeni practices show that in fact the two currents have for long not been clearly dissociated: the Moslem Brothers were narrowly implied in the process of political modernization, nationalist elites having always recognized them this vocation and this ability.Au Yémen, l'absence de présence coloniale rend très spécifique la relation entre le courant du réformisme musulman et les élites nationalistes modernisatrices.
